Maureen's love and close association with dogs, horses, cats other animals and art began in early childhood. Pets of all kinds have been, and still are a major part of her life. Through the years of owning, loving and rescuing many dogs, cats, horses and all animals that cross her path in need, her respect, admiration and intimate knowledge of the animals has become the influential inspiration for her artwork. Maureen believes that as an artist she must appreciate beauty, yet know when to improvise, and look beyond. "A horse is not just a flashy elegant or beautiful creature that graces the wild frontier or thunders down the final stretch. That is just the gift wrap around a complex foundation of bone, muscle and an intriguingly deep and sensitive thought process that interacts to form the entire essence of the horse. As an artist, I have a passion to learn and understand this foundation, how it operates and apply it to all the creatures I paint, draw or sculpt. It is essential to accurately depict and capture the dynamic poses, gestures, expressions and movements that an animal is capable of performing."
Maureen hopes to capture the heart and soul in each animal portrait and bring to life the spirit and memory of that living being.
Many of her originals and prints are donated to various animal rescue
organizations in hopes that her work will make a difference in the lives and welfare of animals on this earth.
